How does your firm use technology to enhance communication and collaboration in the workplace?

Since part of our firm is an IT practice, we are especially advanced in the use of technology to increase collaboration and efficiency. We have a seamless system that allows us to work anywhere we are, at home, in the airport, etc. Our firm provides managers and above with a technology budget to purchase whatever device they feel they need to stay connected. We also have an instant messenger tool through Lync, which also can make video and audio calls to anyone who is online no matter where they are.

What are your thoughts on telecommuting?

As a profession, our accountants are expected to get out from behind their desks and meet with clients. That sometimes means it is more convenient for them to work at home in between meetings or after. Telecommuting is extremely important for a firm of the future. People don’t want to be behind a desk all day.

Data security can be a challenge with the convergence of cloud computing, social media, and mobile usage. How does your firm address this issue and store information securely?

We utilize the cloud, which is much more secure than trying to protect your servers on the ground. With a global organization protecting our data, we can rest assured that even if our on-premise servers go down, or we have a natural disaster, we will still have back up.

What workflow/workplace technology would you recommend?

For marketing, I have dabbled in Asana, and our professionals use XCM Solutions.

Do you actively encourage or motivate your coworkers to use social media to communicate their expertise? If so, do you have social media policies in place?

We do not have social media policies in place; however, we do encourage and reward employees for sharing our content on their social profiles.

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of my job is interacting with the partner group. Combining a left-brain and right-brain person can create some really innovative ideas.

What is your proudest career accomplishment?

I can 100 percent say I enjoy working with all my partners and I know they value what I bring to the table as the marketing professional.
