Monthly Poll

We are asking our readers to contribute to our topic conversation and share a little about what they do in their firms.

Last month, we asked about your upcoming milestones and here is how you answered:

Q1: Do you have a milestone or major announcement coming soon?
A large firm anniversary 43.75%
Retirement of a founding partner 12.50%
M&A 43.73%

Q2: Do you have a folder of templates for "just in case" emergency announcements?
Yes 36.36%
No 60.61%
I'm starting one now 3.03%

Q3: Do you have a PR firm that you are working with or have the ability to engage for major milestones or announcement assistance?
Yes 22.27%
No 72.73%

Looking at the responses to our survey, a good deal of you have big things coming in 2019. However, many of you also do not have an emergency plan or PR firm in place if a crisis hits.

In a recent survey conducted by Deloitte, an overwhelming majority (96%) of companies surveyed are likely to face significant threats to growth in the next two to three years.

The survey revealed the greatest threats fell into four categories. The first was new disruptive technologies and innovations, 35%. For accounting, this is the shift from a tradition tax and audit practice to consulting and advisory brought on by AI. The next category was cyber incidents and events, 27%. The third and fourth risk is an erosion in brand trust or reputation (24%) and a weak or unhealthy organizational culture (20%). Those last categories hit close to our marketing home, but are we prepared? Our survey above suggests no.

During this busy season, while all our accounts are heads down doing client work and no longer want to talk to us about media or events or blog posts, squirrel away some time to build a plan. Even if you simply start a folder of good articles with advice for crisis management so you can quickly refer back to them if you need, it’s a start.

As Benjamin Franklin said, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”

This month, we ask that you please take a minute for the minute and answer this month’s poll questions on what data is important to you.
