Meet the 2018 AAM-MAA Judges

We're excited to announce the all-star judges for the annual Association of Accounting Marketing, Marketing Achievement Awards. From industry leaders to marketing gurus, and much more, we've lined up individuals who know what it takes to make successful marketing campaigns.

Over the next few months, these judges will work together to select the top contenders in each category. Winners will be announced at the Networking/AAM-MAA Reception on May 14, 2018, will receive a trophy, acknowledgment in the official press release and have their awards published on the AAM website.

Tim Bade, Chief Creative Director, Marlin Network

As Marlin Network’s creative lead, Tim fosters an open environment with a cross-functional creative team made up of storytellers, technologists and motion media experts. Tim believes in the blending of technology and creative applied to simple ideas that break through the clutter and create real impact for brands. Tim began his career at Midwest food agency Noble, then co-founded The Alchemedia Project, a digital branding company, prior to his current role with Marlin Network. His career in food and beverage branding have earned him plenty of industry and creative awards including recognition in Print, Communication Arts, Graphis and the Clio short list, but Tim is most proud of work that works.

Suzanne Benjamin, Marketing Director, Dwellworks LLC

Suzy Benjamin is the Director of Global Marketing at Dwellworks. She has over 20 years of marketing and communications experience in the B2B global mobility, technology and real estate industries. In her current role, Suzy is responsible for corporate identity, digital marketing strategy, and global marketing communications strategy. She and her team manage inbound marketing, corporate communications and product marketing utilizing lean and agile practices. Prior to joining Dwellworks in 2011, Suzy worked as an Integrated Marketing Communications Manager for Agilysys, as a Supervisor of Online Marketing for MRI Software, and most recently as an independent marketing consultant and adjunct marketing instructor. She holds a BA in Communications from University of Cincinnati and an MBA from Cleveland State University. Active in both her community and industry, Suzy is a recent recipient of the Meritorious Service Award from Worldwide ERC®, the global mobility industry’s governing organization.

Heather Berryhill, Founding Principal & CEO, Chatter Marketing, Inc.

Heather Berryhill, Founding Principal & CEO of Chatter Marketing, has 24-years’ experience in the industry and has developed her organization into a bustling full-service agency with a team of professionals who bring creativity and a unique approach to a vast array of clients. She has spent years building a team that consists of individuals who bring a talent and perspective to the table. Each was hand-selected for their abilities. Whether it’s graphic design, web design, social media management, public relations, account service and beyond…Heather and the entire Chatter Marketing team deliver creative and innovative branding and marketing strategies that work.

Julia Briggs, CEO, Blue Star Designs

Julia Briggs, founder of Blue Star Design, is the acting CEO and Chief Creative Officer and has built the company from a sole proprietorship to an S-corp with a team of nine employees and 25+ partners. Julia is the creative lead at Blue Star. She handles most client relations and sales for the company. Julia earned a B.A. from the Columbus College of Art and Design in illustration, graduating in 1991 with honors, and has continued her education through Tri-C and is a graduate of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program.

In 1999, after working in a wide array of design careers, Julia created a job for herself in her very own studio, Blue Star Design. Having experience with everything from illustration to packaging and branding, to print and web, meant Julia would never be bored and her clients would benefit from the variety of her talents. In 2007, she took another step forward and added a talented crew to the mix to offer clients a more integrated approach to design, marketing, and idea generation.

Julia has more than 20 years’ experience in the graphic design industry in advertising, publishing, and social expressions industries. Among her many successes, she helped to build the top-selling home-schooling product, Comprehensive Curriculum, developed licensed products with Charles Schulz and Jim Henson Productions, and left a successful career at American Greetings to start Blue Star.

Mark Spaner, President, Spaner Marketing Communications

Mark Spaner is president of Spaner Marketing Communications, a Canton, Ohio-based content-development and graphic design firm. In the past, he has worked with local and regional CPA firms.

Over a four-decade career, Mark has advised some of America’s largest corporations regarding their brand development and lead generation efforts. He started his career as a copywriter at a large Cleveland advertising agency, rising to the position of group creative director before leaving to become executive vice president at another Ohio-based B2B advertising agency.  In 1998 he formed his own firm headquartered in an historic building in downtown Canton.

Mark also is the co-author of the groundbreaking book, “Profiting From Industrial Advertising Sales Leads” on behalf of client, Penton Publishing. This book was the first in-depth study of the art of attracting prospects and turning them into customers.

Hallie Exall, Marketing Program Manager, Jama Software

During the day, Hallie works as a Marketing Programs Manager for Jama Software, where she manages the outbound marketing tactics for the medical and industrial technology segments. After work, you can find her volunteering on the American Marketing Association board as the Community Outreach Chair where she manages the program which pairs marketing volunteers up with local non-profits to execute 6-month long marketing projects. She will soon transition to the President-Elect position. On the weekend, you may find her out hiking, camping, running, swimming or skiing – depending on the Oregon weather. Her golden retriever, Ruby, spends most of her day by Hallie’s side, whether that be at work or out enjoying the fresh air.

Daria Fine, Senior Brand and Digital Specialist, Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt

Daria Fine is strategic marketing expert with experience working on both the creative agency and client side of marketing. She has a passion for web development, site architecture, and the creation of intuitive processes that simplify and bring delight to the end-user. Daria is experienced in brand management and content creation for a diverse range of industries and target audiences and has a strong understanding of creative aesthetics for a variety of media and interactive practices. Her experience runs the gamut from account management to creative direction and she has held a variety of roles touching all aspects of advertising, marketing, and business development, working with high-profile, Fortune 500 companies such as Hewlett Packard, Disney, and DreamWorks. Daria has a BA in Fine and Applied Arts and a Certification in Web Development.

Wendi Flores, CEO/Owner, Foto Crush LLC

With 8 years in marketing, product marketing, and market intelligence, Wendi left HP’s Inkjet division to be part of the founding team at start-up, PrintPaks Inc, a photo and craft software company that sold to Mattel three years later. For the past 20 years, she has co-founded four businesses, including award-winning interactive agency Curiosity Group, and retail photo product developer Foto Crush—passionately advocating for creativity, multi-cultural storytelling and the celebration of all individuals.

Gayle Pekkola, Marketing Professional, Small to Mid-Size Businesses in Cleveland/Akron area

Gayle is a marketing executive with more than 25 years of experience in the IT industry, working with high growth and entrepreneurial companies where she has held leadership roles in marketing, public relations, communications, vendor relations and client services. She was with OnX Enterprise Solutions (formerly Agilysys and Pioneer-Standard) for 16 years where she built and led teams responsible for brand development, marketing strategy and planning, digital marketing, social media, B2B demand generation and sales enablement. Prior to that, she worked for MCPc (formerly MCSi and DREHER Business Products) for 10 years in various roles including Director of Marketing, Director of Vendor Relations, and Director of Customer Support. Gayle also has experience in retail marketing and management working for DeBartolo Corporation, Forest City Enterprises, and JoAnn Fabrics. She thrives at the intersection of marketing, technology and customer experience and enjoys working with companies to build and drive cohesive and effective marketing initiatives that contribute to overall business growth. She is also dedicated to developing and enabling professionals to reach their full potential.

Robert W. (Bob) Sprague, President & CEO, Yes&

Bob is owner of Yes&, a performance-driven marketing agency newly formed from four successful Washington DC-area firms with a combined 80 years in business. Over more than 30 years as a communications strategist, principal writer, consultant, advisor, creative director, video producer, and composer, Bob has helped clients tell their stories and solve their business challenges. Fortune 500 corporate leaders, prominent not-for-profit organizations, and federal government agencies have called upon his expertise in marketing, public relations, and organizational communications.

Now Bob leads a growing team of 75 communications experts and creative talents serving commercial, association, and government clientele in verticals including healthcare, energy, transportation, financial services, and homeland security. Yes& spans the paid, earned, shared, and owned media spectrum with services and products ranging from strategic communications consulting to digital marketing to live event production. He is author of articles in national publications on such topics as crisis communications, cooperative advertising, and evaluating the return on investment of communications. Bob began his career as a professional keyboardist and music director and scored advertising and films for clients including McDonalds, Subaru, the United Way, and the American Red Cross.

Anati Zubia, Director of Marketing, AppointmentPlus

Anati Zubia is a high-energy revenue marketing leader and technologist with experience leading the strategic functions of demand generation, marketing/sales operations, content and business intelligence. Her unique hybrid expertise in modern marketing best practices and data science has been consistently utilized to achieve positive business outcomes for B2B companies from the buyer’s journey to customer success. She operates in the mantra of “create, analyze, optimize, and scale.” 

Anati believes that Marketing is everything, and everything is Marketing. Marketing is the connective tissue and motivating force behind the skeletal structure within any business. For modern marketers to be successful, they must partner with sales, technology, and finance teams, as well as vendors and other stakeholders day-in-and-day-out to deliver programs that resonate with customers and drive business results. With more than 20 years in the field of Marketing, Anati has earned more than a dozen industry-respected certifications since graduating from Western Oregon University with a bachelor’s Degree in Business. Her strategies have earned organizations she has worked with multiple awards for content, nurturing and B2B brand storytelling. When she’s not slinging tweets and “geeking-out” over the latest tech gadget, you’ll find her writing for her niche Disney travel blog or volunteering for local charities and STEM programs in Phoenix.
