Meet the 2017 AAM-MAA Judges

We're excited to announce the all-star judges for the annual Association of Accounting Marketing, Marketing Achievement Awards. From industry leaders to marketing gurus, and much more, we've lined up individuals who know what it takes to make successful marketing campaigns.

Over the next few months, these judges will work together to select the top contenders in each category. Winners will be announced at the AAM-MAA Reception on June 14, 2017, will receive a trophy, acknowledgment in the official press release and have their awards published on the AAM website.

Edward M. Bury, APR

Edward M. Bury, APR, is a senior Chicago-based communications professional/strategic thinker with proven experience in marketing, public relations, and related disciplines. He currently manages all internal and external communications for the Urban Transportation Center, a transportation research unit at the University of Illinois at Chicago. During his career, he’s helped build the brand for leading Chicago-headquartered and international commercial real estate associations and developed and nurtured strategic alliances to reach goals and provide solutions.

One of 3,800 PR professionals to hold the Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) credential, he’s passionate about the value of accreditation in modern public relations. Edward has served on three PRSA national committees and has been an active member of PRSA Chicago for more than a decade. In 2017 he was elected to the PRSA Chicago Board of Directors, where he’ll serve as APR Chair. He blogs about “public relations and other stuff” at www.prdude.wordpress.com.

Edward got his career start at the legendary City News Bureau of Chicago in 1977. He’s the principal of a communications consultancy serving restaurant/hospitality, real estate, mortgage and other businesses. 

Andrew Rose

Andrew Rose is the Marketing Manager for MidAtlantic Farm Credit. An innovative strategy, marketing, and business development authority, Andrew is frequently asked to speak to groups on a wide variety of topics ranging from Ghost Hunting 101 to the Algorithmic Impact of Reviews on Organic Search. He is also a sought-after author for his technical expertise on the subjects of trend spotting, technology, and other leading edge topics.

Andrew is deeply involved in the non-profit community, sitting on or advising many non-profit boards and social impact organizations. He recently served as the Chief Strategy Officer in Residence at the Emerging Technologies Centers, the Chair of the Advisory Board for the Maryland Cybersecurity Association, and was an organizer for the TEDxBaltimore event. Andrew help found the GIVE Program, the only non-discriminatory leadership program in Maryland for rising professionals. 

Andrew is a dedicated outdoor enthusiast who currently relishes in bagging 14ers in Colorado (with over 30 summited and counting), hiking, fishing and mountain biking.

Prior to joining MidAtlantic Farm Credit, Andrew spent almost 12 years running the marketing, business development and strategic alliances for a regional CPA firm. 

Sarah Richards

Sarah Richards is vice president and senior marketing manager at PNC Bank in Cleveland, where she provides strategic oversight of marketing programs for small business customers and prospects. In her role, Sarah leads a dynamic team of marketing professionals responsible for digital marketing, new customer acquisition, onboarding, events and sales support.

Sarah is a certified PMP, and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. She holds an MBA from Ashland University and bachelor’s degree from Walsh University. Her recent honors have included the Association of National Advertisers Rising Star nominee, and Inside Business 25 under 35 in Cleveland.

 

Marcy Ream

Marcy Ream is the Director of Marketing at Coastal Pet Products leading product development, market intelligence, marketing communications and merchandising initiatives. Her professional tenure includes leadership roles in marketing management, communications, product management and sales in health & fitness, construction & storage products, accounting/professional services, software and consumer packaged goods industries. She is a former adjunct professor of marketing at Walsh University in graduate and undergraduate programs.

Marcy is a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where she earned a bachelor's degree in marketing, and she holds a master's degree in business administration from Kent State University. Marcy and her family are residents of Canton, Ohio.

Mark Spaner

Mark Spaner is president of Spaner Marketing Communications, a Canton, Ohio-based content development and graphic design firm. In the past, he has worked with local and regional CPA firms.

Over a four-decade career, Mark has advised some of America’s largest corporations regarding their brand development and lead generation efforts. He started his career as a copywriter at a large Cleveland advertising agency, rising to the position of group creative director before leaving to become executive vice president at another Ohio-based B2B advertising agency.  In 1998 he formed his own firm headquartered in a historic building in downtown Canton.

Mark also is the co-author of the groundbreaking book, “Profiting From Industrial Advertising Sales Leads” on behalf of a client, Penton Publishing. This book was the first in-depth study of the art of attracting prospects and turning them into customers.

Matt McComb

Matt McComb is a multimedia professional at The Karcher Group, a digital agency in North Canton, Ohio. Matt has been working with 3D and animation ever since he got a demo copy of TrueSpace in 1997. The idea of taking a blank digital canvas and making into something that can tell a story through art, motion, and sound is something that has driven his passion in the industry, as well as in his personal projects. Over the years, he has created motion graphics projects for clients like the Cleveland Browns, Goodyear, ProVia Door and Aultman Hospital.

Matt was also an instructor at a local community college for 6 years, where he was able to share his animation and design experience with the next generation of industry professionals. At The Karcher Group, Matt focuses on storytelling through video and motion graphics and design.

Jason Unger

Jason Unger is the founder of Digital Ink, a creative and digital team that builds innovative websites using WordPress and inspirational graphic design for print and digital. He built his first website on GeoCities in 1996 and has basically done it all – website strategy, design, development, troubleshooting, maintenance, content, and marketing. Jason has a degree in Broadcast Journalism from Boston University and is a founding member of the WordPress DC group.

Allyson Eman

Allyson Eman has more than 25 years of marketing, sales and business development experience. In 2007, Allyson took on the role of executive director for the newly created Venture Atlanta annual conference. Allyson has worked with key business leaders from Metro Atlanta Chamber, Atlanta CEO Council and Technology Association of Georgia to build the premier venture capital conference in the South. The conference is now in its tenth year.

Prior to joining Venture Atlanta, Allyson was the senior vice president of marketing and communications for SouthStar Funding, a wholesale mortgage lender headquartered in Atlanta. During her 9-year tenure with the firm, she helped the company grow from 8 employees to 800 with 30 offices nationwide. SouthStar Funding grew to be one of the most reputable, respected and trusted wholesale mortgage lenders in the country under Allyson’s leadership. Prior to joining SouthStar, Allyson worked for SouthTrust Bank as a branch marketing manager overseeing the marketing platform for 100 branches across Georgia. Allyson received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and resides in Marietta with her husband and two children.

Terri Thornton

Terri Thornton is one of the few PR people with a background in TV, radio, digital and print media, and content marketing. Her skills include strategic public relations, content development, social media, media relations and crisis communications. Clients include leading businesses, organizations and institutions including law, accounting, multifamily real estate, clean energy and others.

Terri’s speaking engagements include MarketingProfs B2B Forums, Social Media & The Law ICLE conferences, SoCon, the Legal Marketing Association, the Association for Accounting Marketers, the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, the National Arthritis Foundation and the Independent Counselor’s section of PRSA. She also led a national webinar for news people transitioning to the business world.

She has won national and local awards for social media marketing and/or PR in competitions hosted by Bulldog Reporter, the Legal Marketing Association, PR Daily, the IABC and PRSA. She also won national and regional awards for investigative reporting, as well as documentary, series and newscast production at a series of top-rated stations.

Terri spent 20 years in broadcast journalism and launched Good Day Atlanta – the nation’s highest-rated local morning show – at WAGA-TV in Atlanta. A long-time contributor to MediaShift.org, she serves as a freelance editor for two prominent accounting publications: Strategic Finance and Management Accounting Quarterly. She also wrote a chapter on crisis communications in a “PR News” Guidebook.

 

Maggie O'Toole

Maggie O’Toole is a digital marketer focused on ecommerce and large-scale website implementation projects.  She currently resides in Chicago and works at Chamberlain Group, a manufacturing firm focused on access and entry products. At Chamberlain, Maggie manages the company’s B2B ecommerce. Prior to her work at Chamberlain, Maggie worked in the banking, accounting and law industries.

Originally from Ohio, Maggie is a graduate of Ohio University.
